IMD Weather Alert: The Meteorological Department reports the development of a deep pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, potentially transforming into a cyclonic storm today. This phenomenon is expected to impact the weather across regions.
Recent days have witnessed a drop in temperatures across the country since Diwali, particularly in states like Delhi. The Meteorological Department indicates that the deep pressure area in the Bay of Bengal may evolve into a cyclonic storm today, potentially making landfall along the Bangladesh coast. Additionally, the department forecasts the likelihood of heavy rainfall in multiple states.
For Delhi today (October 17), the Meteorological Department predicts a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 15 degrees Celsius. Thursday saw a maximum temperature of 26 degrees, while Wednesday recorded the coldest day of the season, witnessing a three-degree drop in a single day. Air quality in Delhi fluctuated, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) being recorded as very poor on Thursday.
Uttar Pradesh is also experiencing a gradual onset of cold weather, with residents feeling the chill during mornings and nights, despite strong sunlight in the daytime. Uttarakhand recorded a maximum temperature of 28.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, three degrees above normal, with a minimum temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department anticipates no significant changes in the current weather pattern. Meanwhile, snowfall has been reported in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and other hilly regions.
Regarding the potential cyclonic storm, the Meteorological Department reported on Thursday that the pressure area had intensified into a deep depression, moving north-northeast at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour. As of 8:30 am on Thursday, it was approximately 390 km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 320 km south-southeast of Paradip in Odisha.
