Update on Vande Bharat Express Train: To effectively manage post-festive season crowds, Southern Railways implemented a strategic move by introducing a special Vande Bharat Express train on November 21, 2023. This semi-high-speed train, with eight coaches, departed from Chennai at 11 pm and reached Bengaluru around 4:30 am, adhering to a fixed schedule of approximately five and a half hours between the two cities. The journey commenced from Chennai Central station and concluded at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning.
Railway officials, cited in media reports, mentioned that the Vande Bharat special train for passengers is scheduled for nighttime travel between the two metros. Based on ridership and demand, authorities may decide to operate additional special overnight trains in the upcoming holiday season.
It’s worth noting that another Vande Bharat Express is already operational on this route, inaugurated in November of the previous year. According to reports, the ticket prices for the economy class on the Chennai-Mysuru route are Rs 921, and for the executive class, it is Rs 1880. Initially designed to run during daytime hours, this marks the introduction of the first overnight Vande Bharat Express train service between the two cities.
