Festive Twist: No More School Holidays on These Celebrations! Summer Vacation Nixed for Teachers in This State.

Education Shake-Up in Bihar: No Summer Break for Teachers, Major Festival Holidays Scrapped!

The Bihar Education Department has just unveiled the 2024 academic calendar, and brace yourself for some game-changing adjustments! This time around, the holiday landscape has undergone a significant transformation, with a surprising twist—teachers won’t be enjoying their customary summer vacation, and schools will remain open on various major festivals.

Here’s a quick rundown of the key modifications:

  1. Festival Holidays Axed: Say goodbye to holidays on Mahanavami, Rakshabandhan, Shivratri, Janmashtami, Teej, Jiutiya, and more in 2024. Schools will now stay open on these significant days.
  2. Gandhi Jayanti and More: Schools will not be shuttered on Gandhi Jayanti and other similar occasions. Instead, a lineup of programs will be organized.
  3. Teacher Work Continues: In a major departure, teachers will not enjoy a summer break this time. While schools will be closed for students, teachers will be expected to report for duty. Parent-teacher meetings and various events will carry on during this period.
  4. Extended Eid and Bakrid Holidays: On the flip side, some festivals will see an extension in holidays. Eid and Bakrid breaks will now span three days each, while Muharram’s holiday, which was one day last year, will stretch to two days in 2024. Shab-e-Barat’s holiday, however, has been curtailed.
  5. New Changes in Detail:
    • October 2 (Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti) will have no school holiday, with programs planned instead.
    • No holidays on Mahashivratri, Rakshabandhan, Janmashtami, Ramnavmi, Jankinavami, Teej, and Jiutiya.
    • Extended holidays for Eid-Bakrid and Muharram.
    • In 2023, schools were closed for a total of 64 days, whereas in 2024, the closure will be for 60 days, including Sundays.
    • Schools in areas with a high Muslim population can seek permission from the DM to observe Friday as a day off instead of Sunday.
    • Schools are prohibited from declaring holidays independently.
    • Summer vacations may last for 20 to 30 days.

Get ready for a paradigm shift in the academic calendar as Bihar embraces these bold changes in the education landscape.
