Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that India’s burgeoning food processing sector has successfully garnered a substantial Rs 50,000 crore in foreign direct investment (FDI) over the past nine years. During his statement, he emphasized the importance of minimizing post-harvest losses and reducing food wastage.
Additionally, PM Modi highlighted the remarkable progress in India’s food processing capacity over the same period, resulting in a remarkable 150% surge in the export of processed food. The sector’s capacity has also experienced significant expansion, surging from a mere 12 lakh tonnes to over 200 lakh tonnes.
